Two Boilermakers represented the Purdue Micro-Hydropower Global Design Team at the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) Conference 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. Patrick Pawletko, a Senior in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering, and Eleni Bardaka, a Ph.D. student in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering won the 2nd place in the CGIU Commitments Challenge fundraising competition and a $2,500 prize. The team managed to raise in total $14,375 within two weeks. As Purdue's CGI liaison, Dean Phillips joined them in Arizona.
Undergraduate and graduate members of the Purdue Micro-Hydropower Team are addressing the challenge of rural electrification in developing nations through the development of a financially, environmentally, and socially sustainable community-owned renewable energy system.
